The Palestinian community in the UK commemorated the 76th anniversary of the Nakba in London. The open day on Sunday 9/6/2024 was organised by “The Association of the Palestinian Community in the UK, APCUK” and attracted hundreds of members of the Arab and Palestinian community, along with many British supporters who came to express their support for the Palestinian people and their condemnation of the Israeli aggression targeting the Gaza Strip. Different activities marked the Palestinian Nakba, including film screenings, a brief explanation of the “Tantura” massacre, and another about the village of Al-Dawayma presented by the activist, engineer Youssef Qandil. The day included a photo exhibition and another of traditional clothing. The head of the Palestinian National Initiative, Dr. Mustafa Barghouti, talked to the talked to the audience via Zoom, along with the former Palestinian ambassador, Afif Safieh. Both stressed the importance of Western solidarity with the Palestinian people, and the importance of exposing and refuting Israeli lies.A number of parliamentary independent candidates who are running in the British Parliament elections spoke to the audience, stressing the importance of the Palestinian issue in these elections. They also stressed that the position on the war in Gaza is the most present element in these elections. Many book titles on Palestine and Nakba were exhibited during the day.
